The construction industry is benefiting from major advances in technology. New building materials, energy efficient components and BIM (Building Information Modeling) are creating major benefits for building owners, designers and construction firms.
BIM allows all stakeholders to work off the same model. Designers do extensive work to insure maximum efficiencies in the design of each component of the building process. The technology is used by the building contractor and sub-contractors to design/refine their individual components. Any changes to the design are reflected in the master model so that any conflicts can be resolved before construction or any in-the-field changes get updated into the master model. This is how it’s supposed to work… Despite all best efforts, changes don’t always get updated and not everything get built do the models specs. Obviously, the as-built conditions must be validated and noted throughout the construction process. But how?
3D Laser Scanning is being adopted as the most efficient method to not only documents the true “as-built” status of the facility, but as a tool to help validate and update the master BIM model. Scanning the project at various stages in the construction life-cycle affords key documentation and a historical archive of the project. It keeps helps keep people “honest” and increases cooperation.
SANE performs 3D Scanning Surveys in support of building documentation and BIM validation. Our clients appreciate the speed at which we can perform the surveys and our flexibility to work in active space, after hours or at night to meet deadlines and safety requirements.
